Top is the second studio album by American rapper YoungBoy Never Broke Again. It was released on September xi, 2020 through Never Broke Over again and Atlantic Records. It follows his debut album, Until Death Call My Name, released over two years before. It is YoungBoy'southward 3rd project of 2020, post-obit the mixtapes, 38 Baby ii and Withal Flexin, Yet Steppin. Top consists of 21 tracks and includes guest appearances from Snoop Dogg and Lil Wayne.

Background [edit]

Following the release of 38 Baby and after releasing music continuously for four years,[4] YoungBoy announced that he would have a brief hiatus from releasing new music. At the time, he tweeted, "After Fri [38 Infant two 's release], I'll never release a song/album again until I'm in a ameliorate state of affairs".[5] He likewise publicly asked his label for his masters in commutation for 4 new albums. Even so, the label declined this offer.[six] The album was announced by YoungBoy on August twenty through his social media, forth with the engagement, and indicated the project would consist of 18 tracks.[seven] By Baronial 25, the anthology reached number 1 on Apple Music based on pre-orders alone.[eight]

Singles [edit]

"All In" was released as the album'south lead single on August 2, 2020. On information technology, YoungBoy deals with heartbreak and loss over a guitar-tinged production.[8] "Kacey Talk" was released every bit the 2nd single and features ad-libs from YoungBoy'south son Kacey. The song, called "Murder Business organisation" was released equally a single on August 25, 2020, also directed past Rich Porter; the video sees YoungBoy and his crew in diverse locations.[5]

The song, called "House Arrest Tingz" appears on runway 18 from the album. It was originally released exclusively on YouTube on September 25, 2019, while YoungBoy was on house arrest.[12]

The vocal, called "The Last Backyard..." is a vocal that leaked in early 2020, following a live performance of information technology. Information technology is included as the anthology'southward third track.[thirteen]

The album cover was revealed along with the album's announcement. It immediately drew criticism for its similarities to that of Atlantic Records labelmate Roddy Ricch'sPlease Excuse Me for Being Antisocial (2019).[14] Both covers are shot in blackness and white and features similar poses and clothing. Zoe Johnson of XXL noted: "NBA YoungBoy, withal, is wearing two iced-out Cuban link choker chains, which sit on the neckline of his shirt while Roddy's jewelry is tucked within of his shirt".[14] Ricch responded in now-deleted tweets, writing, "Information technology's only 1 roddy". He also downplayed any problems between him and YoungBoy: "And I been good wit dude so don't make it near him... I'grand just tired of all this comparing stuff".[fourteen]

Commercial performance [edit]

Pinnacle debuted at number one on the The states Billboard 200 with 126,000 album-equivalent units (including xix,000 pure album sales) in its outset calendar week, becoming YoungBoy'south third number-one album overall, also as his second number-1 album in 2020.
