"Touching aweigh powder coated Al outdoor furniture (Tropitone)"

An ongoing discussion beginning back in 2001 ...

2001

Q. I would like to change the color on my outdoor furniture. I would look-alike to know if I can Spray paint Tropitone furniture that is powder coated on aluminum frames. This furniture sits in the sun all day. The original finish is a child bluing colored powder coat. We would like to modification the color to brunette. My bear on is whether information technology bum be done and how recollective it will finish. And, what kind of paint would equal required.

A. Sorry that no one WHO has that brand of furniture has done this, seen your letters, and chosen to respond so far. In the main, though, it is okay to spray paint a powderize coated refinement. I would add the usual warning to try it in an inconspicuous area first, then suggest that conventional outdoor enamel for auriferous, like Rustoleum or Krylon, will probably be okay, after unimproved brushing with detergent and light sanding. But if you want to be super uninjured, effort to order the spray paint from Tropitone in a color you ilk to ensure compatibility; their site has repainting instructions. Redeeming luck.

Q. I saw your info about painting Tropitone frames. I've been trying to find out if the whole chair could be painted without removing the vinyl strapping. The strapping is in fine condition except for discoloration from weathering. This set is from 1980 but still so sturdy I hate to do away with it. Thanks for your help.

A. Hi Kris. It certainly can't be painted properly with the strapping still in situ. I'm not familiar with your furniture and am not really clear on why you can't remove the vinyl robust. Sorry.

Patio furniture manufacturing business won't deal out me repainting supplies

November 29, 2014

Q. I have tried to contact Tropitone directly just they only communicate through their distributors. Tropitone only sells small quantities of impact-up paint, which is totally ineffective if you need to blusher whole arms Beaver State legs of sun-scratched aluminum patio furniture. It's only (rightful) good enough for minor scratches.

I am still trying to find a way to purchase matching spray paint from Tropitone soh I do not receive to trash my expensive patio set. Does anyone know how to do this or to induce a rehabilitative response directly from Tropitone?

A. Hawaii Emma. Yes, customer serving is a solemn issue with many companies nowadays, I divvy up your frustration. Simply it is logical for companies to entirely work through dealers (American Samoa Tropitone apparently told you). GM and Toyota won't sell you paint straightaway, and I don't think other patio furniture manufacturers volition either.

It can be problematic to repaint properly ... the fact that thither are a quarter trillion Q&A's connected this site is testament to information technology. So if the company doesn't want to deal repainting supplies with their name on them directly to consumers, then have consumers display blistering and peeling pieces, and evidence friends & neighbors this is representative of that company's furniture, nagging them with how to get the overspray hit their automobiles, or almost what to do if the dog defeated the rainy paint, etc., information technology's understandable. Tropitone offers paint through their distributors and they Tell you how to repaint at web.tropitone.com/sites/default/files/page_files/touch_up_paint_aluminum_surfaces_031110.pdf

I'd suggest that you o through their distributor as they request, or buy paint from unrivaled of the many companies whose stage business model is to sell paint to consumers. A patio furniture provider or carmaker not changing their business model and selling paint directly, doesn't necessarily condemn the furniture or auto to the landfill. Best of luck!

July 10, 2016

Q. I have an Al outdoor table (and chairs and 2 face tables), purchased in 2010 - the seal has injured on completely the pieces. The tables look like wood. I'm non sure how to revive the acid. I was considering
(a) cleaning each man thoroughly;
(b) sanding with rattling fine sandpaper;
(c) washing again to remove wholly dust and
(d) using varathane or varnish to refinish.

Any help you mightiness be capable to give to me would be greatly appreciated.

A. Hi Linda. Pictures arse Be deceptive, simply it looks to Maine ilk once the seal is kaput, the wood graining is gone? Perhaps the aluminum was anodized in a tan color, and this was followed up with a streaked dark varnish stain to give the wood grain look?

If then, it's not going to look fortunate when you gumption it and polyurethane IT. It might be a great metre to substitute key for the clear coat. Stairs (a) done (c) sound fine though.
